Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

Size. Matters.

Size. Matters.

Not fashion. These stop signs might actually make me come to a complete stop, as opposed to just rollin’ riiight on through those intersections. No cop, no stop!

Not fashion either. Can you imagine shaking hands with a fake metal hand every time you opened your door? That’d be awesome.

Great. Sometimes, models are really just used as a mode of transportation for a costume down the runway. And that’s okay. I just can’t imagine being too excited about living my life bound to an eating disorder to wear this.

Size zero seems unnecessary at that point. It’s a shame bulimia doesn’t cause multiple heads instead of rotting teeth. That would have been so. perfect. for that girl’s show.

Long, black veil. Finding sunnies tired lately? Try on a veil for size. You know, in case you want to look completely crazy.

Megalophobia. I am a megalophobe, which means I am afraid of things I feel are larger than they should be. But I have yet to find a bag that is too big. Even this wonderful work of art in Australia, is delightfully gigantic to me, not scarily so.

It reminds me of those race car beds they make for little kids. How rad would it be if that opened up to a couch? Gotta think big.

Fallen Princesses. I leave you with a completely gorgeous series of photos, depicting heroines of our childhood brought to real life. It’s a little sad, but really interesting, I think. Enjoy =)

Celeb Style: Victoria Beckham’s Handbag

When I hear the name “Victoria Beckham”, I instantly think of a strong, beautiful woman with a sophisticated edge. The recipe for this mental image:

1 Part Poise
1 Part Exquisite Styling

(Hint: The latter ingredient is key!)

For instance, take a look at the stylish handbag Victoria is carrying. Very “posh”, is it not? Handbag Heaven has a much more economically sound way of pulling off this very look.

Available in both black and brown, The Jane Shoulder Bag is tastefully embossed with a gorgeous croc texture and matte finish. The Jane Checkbook Wallet and the Jane Smaller Wallet also offer the same sophisticated edge (in a much smaller package of course)!

Bon Appetit!

New Merch Monday: Grace Motorcycle Clutch

The Challenge: to be fashion forward. When everyone is trying for a look that stands out, finding a piece that speaks for itself in saying “I am unique” can be a tough feat.

But I have good news, you are at the right blog spot, at the right time. After one look at the Grace Motorcycle Clutch, this challenge is oh so achievable.

First, the blend of soft, violet-grey coloring lends this clutch a chic, glam-rock vibe. The easy-to-open clasp at top (always a classy look) is just another amazing edition to what this clutch’s offerings. And of course, the bag is adorned with tiny silver studs, which in my opinion, are what truly make this bag. A silky, polka dot lining can be found inside the clutch, with zippered pockets to store credit cards, lip gloss — you know, the important stuff.

The Grace Motorcycle Clutch speaks for itself and with this darling, the person next to you will be thinking where did she get that? Whether you’re out for a lunch date or at a fabulous party, believe me, heads will turn.

And hey, let’s say an amazing man (whether it’s your hubby, or a broodingly handsome stranger) asks you for a dance. No problem, the Grace Motorcycle Clutch comes with a detachable handle, along with a longer chain handle that allow you to easily transform this hand held beauty into either a shoulder bag, or a dangling wristlet.

Dazzling, edgy, glamorous, rockstar and only $39.95 — those the the facts. You know what to do with them.

Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

This week was a fab one, and as so, I’m going to stray bit a from the typical weekly roundup you know and love. I was fortunate enough to squeeze in a trip to NYC for a taste of Fashion Week and only experienced a total airplane delay period of one hour, whilst flying consecutively on the two snowiest days of the week. If that as a whole isn’t a marked success, what is?

My quick trip was entirely wrapped in my attendance of the Independent Fashion Blogger community Evolving Influence event , a conference for fashion bloggers to discuss the best practices, significance and future of fashion blogging. Though the biggest names in the fashion blogosphere spoke throughout the day, I arrived in time to catch “The Future of Blogging”, a panel featuring Susie Bubble of Style Bubble, Tavi Gevinson of Style Rookie, Bryanboy, Phil Oh of Street Peeper, and Britt Aboutaleb and Lauren Sherman of Fashionista.com.

Upon getting past the initial shock of seeing these quasi-icons in real life — an experience akin to seeing a unicorn — I could focus on the insightful words of speakers. Check here for my girl Julia’s live blog of the event and here for an in-depth overview of the conference via WWD.

Rather than words, let me present to you my experience in peekchas.

NYC 10 001

Rockin’ signage.

The event took place at the Helen Mills Theatre on West 26th.

NYC 10 002

The food was nearly as gorgeous as the attendees’ attire.

NYC 10 006

The event was sponsored in part by Couturious. I didn’t get the exact gist of the company’s function, but I gathered that it’s an invite-only web-based styling tool on which you can upload a pic of yourself and virtually try on clothes (in part, at least). See someone stepping into this virtual dress room above.

NYC 10 004

Fabulousity in motion.

NYC 10 008

The lovely Jennine of The Coveted was the mastermind behind the event, as well as IFB in general. As the founder, she was super excited about the great turnout. This was taken after we mutually balked at Scott Sherman and Garance Dore just feet away.

NYC 10 012

Last but obviously not least, here I am with Twitter-enthusiast, Bryan Boy. To say the least, everyone wanted a piece of this new-found celebrity — me included, of course.

The event was undoubtedly a success. I met several handfuls of haute bloggers, with whom we plan to work in the near future. Look for their guest posts here on the blog, as well as Handbag Heaven reviews sprinkled throughout this stylish sect of the blog world.

How to Wear a Clutch

Milana from the ever-so-useful Fashion Style Advice is back, this time to give us her expert insight on that most feminine of handbags: the clutch. Read on for reasons why you should make this fashion element a staple in your wardrobe.

Handbags are to me what shoes are to Carrie Bradshaw; something you just can’t get enough of! When it comes to wardrobe, handbags are probably a girl’s best friend. They look good, can dress us up and can dress us down, and most importantly, they are the carrier alishaof all of our essentials when we leave the house. They come in many different shapes, sizes, textures, and colors and that’s exactly what makes them fun - they are a feminine item that is both practical and pretty at the same time.

One of my favorite types of bags is a clutch. Why? They are very feminine and very edgy at the same time. They can be worn in many different ways; under your arm, in your hand, around your wrist, or just held with your fingers. You can look very feminine by holding it up in the palm of your hand with your arm stretched out, or very edgy and cool just holding the edge of the clutch in your fingers or under your arm.

The Alisha Distressed Clutch is perfect for both night and day. What I like about this clutch is its functionality - it’s not too small and not too big, either. There’s room for all your must-have beauty items like mascara, lip gloss, and blush, and it also has small pockets for your phone and other things you want to be able to find quickly.

The color of this clutch is very easy to mix with other colors, especially neutral colors like grey, black and white. It can make any neutral outfit look a lot more exciting analishaopend fun and a lot more feminine too.

What’s great about this clutch is that is looks great and is practical at the same, and this is not the case with many clutches. They’re all pretty and can make any outfit just a little more feminine, but usually they’re not practical and you can’t have a lot of things in them.

I would wear this clutch to a lunch, a movie or a night out. It’s not practical for going shopping because you have to hold it in your hand, but it’s perfect for a date! You don’t want to look too bulky going out - you want to look relaxed - and this clutch is great for that!

New Merch’ Monday: Haley Pleated Shopper

Haley in Grey

Haley in Grey

Due to it being President’s Day, I tried to tie in some sort of Presidential joke about how cool this Haley Pleated Shopper Bag is, but it felt like one of those “how much does a polar bear weigh? Enough to break the ice,” openers.

No good. And rarely facilitates taking anything home.

The Haley deserves better.

True story: I almost bought this bag, but it’s just barely a different shade of grey than my new favorite jacket, thus I couldn’t justify it if I couldn’t carry it all the time.

My life is so full of drama.

Haley in Turquoise

Haley in Turquoise

From the braided handles to the ruching, the Haley has the perfect amount of perfect detailing to make for a perfect bag. The long pocket at the front of it saves the bag from looking like a big ol’ tote whilst balancing the size of the bag.

Plus, the tassel is sweeeet!

The color choices are pretty fantastic (so long as you don’t have a new favorite jacket just slightly different than the shades available…but I already talked about that).

Grey is always a perfect neutral, allowing you to wear just about any color combination, and turquoise, having made a huge comeback in recent seasons, was named THE Color of 2010 by Pantone.

Seeing as how a girl always needs a go-to neutral bag and a pop-of-color bag, I don’t see any reason why one wouldn’t need both options of the Haley. Color me logical.

Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

Ooookay, I think it’s about time for another Civil War. These crazy-tights-wearing girls are getting out of control.

Now, that’s not to say I don’t enjoy some men in tights. Not like the Robin Hood kind (though that movie was hiiilarious), rather the ice-dancing kind. Pa-pa-pa-poker face. Has yet to get old.

Men in old-man socks, Velcro sandals, a furry Louis Vuitton jacket, with long nails and a pre-adolescent molestache? Not. So. Much.

If you follow our twitter account, you probably know that we are mildly obsessed with the phlog, The Sartorialist.

Well.

Just in case I needed another reason to stare at pictures of KITTEHZ all day, I bring you… The Catorialist.

So much for sleeping.

McQueen and His Mother

McQueen and His Mother

Alright, funny stuff: over. I wanted to get that all out up-front. Now, if you haven’t already heard, revered and innovative fashion designer, Lee Alexander McQueen, 40, took his life the morning of Thursday, 12 February 2009, just days after his mother passed away.

Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, heard the news in the middle of one of New York Fashion Week’s shows, which started yesterday, and actually got up and left, mid-show.

Soon after, Wintour issued a statement:

“We are devastated to learn of the death of Alexander McQueen, one of the greatest talents of his generation. He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen’s influence was astonishing — from street style, to music culture and the world’s museums. His passing marks an insurmountable loss.”

People Magazine’s online sector, StyleWatch, put together a collection of McQueen’s 10 Best Runway Shows. You can view the video here.

For those unfamiliar with McQueen’s work, the most notable of his designs, recently, would be the hoof-like shoes seen in Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” video.

Alexander McQueen will be miss greatly by the fashion world; I can’t even imagine what those close to him are going through. That’s all I’ll say on this.

Have a happy Valentine’s Day weekend. Make sure everyone you love knows how you feel. One person can make a huge difference.

Love,
Terryl
