Get Glam with the Gina

You know you’re a celebrity when:

1) The tabloids publish a totally fake story about you.

Hilary Duff with a Berkin Bag

Hilary Duff with her Birkin Bag

2) Designers pay you to wear their clothes.

3) You’re dating a totally hot celeb.

4) You carry a Birkin.

Birkin bags are the “IT” handbag. No other designer purse can touch it. How much would one of these beautiful, sleek, leather handbags cost, might you ask? The lowest price offered for a Birkin…$9,000. Just in case you want to eat for the rest of your life, we helped ya out and gave you a look for less. You’re welcome.

The Gina—perfect for those that have the fashion taste for a Birkin, but not the checkbook to back it up. (Don’t feel bad, none of us do either.) It is complete with a soft, embossed leatherette and topped with belted buckle to create your elegant look. Available in cream, navy or black, the Gina has a both a shoulder strap and tote handles.

If you need a handbag to pull off your stylish look in the office or for an important dinner, the Gina is the perfect purse. The Gina will perfect your chic office ensemble so perfectly that, who knows, your boss may even promote you?!

Is it necessary to whiten your teeth to be fashionable?

Walk in to any supermarket, and you’ll see teeth-whitening products lining the aisles, whether it’s toothpaste, whitening strips, or chewing gum. But is teeth whitening really a high priority for those of us who want to stay fashionable? Today’s guest post was written by Martin, who if you can’t tell, is from the Cosmetic Dentistry Guide site, where you can learn more about teeth whitening or many other cosmetic dental treatments to boost your fashion profile. Here he addresses our obsession with white teeth and gives you some tips on achieving the look.

The cover of every magazine, every photo of a Hollywood A-lister, the presenters on TV and the manufactured pop-stars filling up the charts … what do they all have in common? A gleaming white smile.

Whether their teeth are aligned and looked after “perfectly,” all the major role models, celebs and fashionistas in our society have brilliant white teeth. We all know that they’ve had them done professionally cleaning or bleached, and some of them aren’t even showing off their real teeth. However, it is necessary to whiten your teeth in order to be considered fashionable?

Are white teeth just a trend right now, like the colors that come in and out each year? Or would Naomi Campbell or Kate Moss suddenly lose all their fashionable credibility if they were to turn up on the catwalk with a more natural shade of teeth?

How can you make sure your smile is “fashionable?”

Teeth whitening gels and strips can be used in the comfort of your own home, without the need to sit in the dentist’s chair. Over-the-counter whitening trays and gels are either brushed into or applied onto teeth at home. The peroxide in these gels usually takes a few weeks to achieve full results, and teeth stay white for a number of months. Similar effects are achieved by whitening toothpastes, which use special abrasives and chemical agents to remove stains and improve the shade of teeth. Neither option costs a lot, so it’s easy for teenagers and young adults to get a hold of them.

Treatment at the dentist allows for more protection to gums and a longer-lasting effect, but this comes with an increased cost. The use of laser or heat treatment means that the whitening can be done in one visit, with the cleaning agents applied directly onto the teeth.

The risks are virtually nil for most people and the results can be both short and longer term, depending on how the teeth are whitened, so it’s clear to see why people are reaching for a quick solution to solve their naturally stained teeth.

But, doesn’t it all serve as part of the illusion?

It’s become common knowledge that most of the photos used in celebrity and glamour magazines are digitally enhanced to improve the figures of ordinary people. It’s an easy deception which many believe gives off a false impression of beauty. It’s common to want to look like all the stars in these photos, and young girls and teenagers are going to follow-suit no matter what. It might not be completely necessary to have brilliant white teeth in order to be considered fashionable, but parents might be more accepting of this rather than having their children starving themselves in order to look as thin as a catwalk model. In the end, it’s all down to personal boundaries. But why not try and bring natural teeth in as the next big trend, eh?

Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

Fall Into the Gap. I love GAP and I love Valentino (but like most of the population can’t afford it) so naturally I would love Valentino for GAP. The latest of the high-end low-end collaborations it’s sure to be a success. Unfortunately for us Americans the collection is only available in GAP stores in France, Italy and the UK. Perhaps it’s time to think about a Parisian pen pal.

Out of Style. Remember when DVD’s were cutting edge technology? Soon they may be joining VHS’s as relics of the past. Best Buy announced come Christmas they’re reducing the amount of DVD’s in the store to make room for video games and other consumer electronics. I guess I better look into investing in Netflix.

Guest Picks. Virtually everything Nicole Richie wears I immediately want to get my hands on, so I was in for a pleasant surprise when I found out she was guest editor for a day at Who What Wear. Her choice of pieces are a mixture of sixties and sexy.

What’s Hot. One of my favorite past times is hunting for fashion deals on the internet, which is why I always look forward to My Fashion Life’s 10 Hottest Items of the Week. Each hot item is only a click away.

Weekly Roundup

Be Bold. Bold makeup has never really been my thing, but these Andy Warhol inspired beauty looks are enough to make me invest in some hot pink lipstick and purple eye shadow… worn separately of course.

Spring Fashion

Spring Fashion Fever. For the past seven days New York Fashion Week has been in the back of my mind. Unfortunately I didn’t make it to the tents in Bryant Park… er Lincoln Square (never going to get used to that…), but in my personal opinion getting backstage and front row coverage via the blogosphere is almost the same thing — minus the aching feet, of course.

J’adore Paris. The “anything goes” attitude of French style has always been intriguing to me, so naturally I gravitated to this post by Bachman’s Sparrow on French street style. The French mix of high and low-end pieces, and everything in between inspires me to be more risky in my fashion choices.

V-M-Awesome. The MTV Video Music Awards have come and gone once again. Secretly, I was hoping for another Kayne-West-disses-Taylor-Swift-in-front-of-millions repeat, but it wasn’t in the cards this year. In fact, excitement in general wasn’t in the cards this year being that the most controversial thing that happened was Lady Gaga wearing an outfit made entirely out of meat.

Get Paris Hilton’s Infamous Chanel Bag, Minus the Drug Charges

As you all know by now, the-love-to-hate, party hardy, “That’s Hot,” celebrity, Paris Hilton, was arrested on 27th of August, for possession of cocaine in Las Vegas. You’ve probably heard the dirty details of Hilton’s lock up, but let’s do a little re-cap just in case.

The police pulled over Hilton’s vehicle for suspicion of marijuana, as they had seen and smelled smoke emitting from her car. The LVPD conducted a full search of the vehicle, where they found, wait for it…cocaine in Paris’ purse. The amount of cocaine was not released to the press, but Paris did make public a statement that may land her in an orange jumpsuit once again.

Paris claimed to the police that the purse was not hers and belonged to a friend; therefore, she was not aware of the cocaine. Although she may have claimed not to own what I must say is a, a b-e-a-u-tiful Chanel bag, someone has proof otherwise. Her Twitter handle! Before she left for vacay in Vegas, Paris Tweeted pictures of her new Chanel bag, and how proud she was of it. Hmm…I think someone needs to think before they Tweet!

The Taylor Sequin Studded Hobo, $42.46, is the perfect handbag to take out for a night on the town! Its zipper closure and hobo shape allow for easy access with plenty of room to hold as many items as you want.

We regret to inform you that illegal substances are not included with this purchase.

Easy Style Update: Dos and Don’ts of the Middle Part

Forget the bold bangs and side parts of past seasons, middle parts have had a huge presence in Hollywood and on this year’s runways.

Celebrities from the Kardashians to the Olsen Twins have consistently sported the middle part, however, the style can be difficult to pull off. I myself sported a middle part until the age of 14 when I came to the realization I looked like the actor Barry Watson of 7th Heaven.

A middle hair part is currently bolder than a side part and can instantly update your look for fall. With a few tricks this fresh style can be worn by any one.

Do: Keep locks soft and away from the face. Try slight waves or curling hair with a large barrel curling iron for a more polished look.

Don’t: Keep your hair completely straight. The look is rarely flattering unless you have the face of Coco Rocha. You could also end up looking like a hippie or a guest star on That 70’s show.

Do: Part your hair slightly off-center. If you’re not ready to try a dead center part try parting hair slightly off to the side. An off-center part is more flattering for all face shapes.

Don’t: Slick your hair back with spray or gel. The look can be extreme. If you don’t want to deal with loose strand, you’re better off parting your hair down the center accompanied by a loose bun.

Do: Pair your new center part with an oversized bag! Follow Kim’s lead.

Hopefully, you too will take part in this trend. (No pun intended).

Staff Review: Wilson Shoulder Messenger Bag

You can't escape its adorableness.

Some bags are simply made for certain people. It’s neat what happens when the ideal owner-and-bag combination is found, because the two elements just look like they are made for each other.

I recently witnessed this exact phenomenon when my adorable boss decided to make the switch from her bubbly summer bag to her new, Wilson Shoulder Messenger Bag. (We like grey here, at Handbag Heaven.)

And no, that’s not a typographical error in the name. This bag is actually both.

I’ll wait as you marvel in its versatility.

Kay, come back. So my boss slips the Wilson on, cross-body, and it hits right below her hip, the most perfect little messenger bag I’ve ever seen.

Its square shape allows for plenty of room, without looking like you’re hauling textbooks and your 15-inch Toshiba from 2004. And the rouched ruffles add plenty of visual interest and keep the bag looking “pretty,” and not just functional.

Speaking of those ruffles, I wanted to point out that your eyes are not deceiving you; that IS zipper detailing on the “hem,” I suppose, of those ruffles, which just ups the cool factor even more.

The ideal size for a cross-body or a shoulder bag, the Wilson is great for anyone. It comes in a deep grey and a vivid robin’s egg blue, so it’s perfect for a neutral OR a fun pop of color.

Choosing the Right Handbags for the Right Occasion

choosing handbags

Finding the right outfit for an outing is difficult enough, but add the pressure of choosing the right handbag… That’s just not fair. Choosing the right handbag is a lot like predicting the future. What items will you need? What will the weather be like? Will you have somewhere to put your bag? Seriously, it’s not like you’re Miss Cleo! So if your crystal ball is a little hazy and your magic 8 ball is missing, what you really need is a go-to guide to handbag selection… Read now, you can thank me later.

In Da Club. Whether you’re a dancing queen or a wallflower, handbags are simply a nightlife burden. Limit yourself to only the essentials (cell phone, keys, lip gloss, etc.) and invest in a chic wristlet. Wristlets are the perfect small, compact and hands free option so you’re free to shake yo groove thang.

In the Air. When you’re flying, the style of the bag isn’t so much the issue as the size of the bag. Bigger is better - just make sure it fits under the seat in front of you. Choose a bag that will hold a magazine, a fully charged iPod and a water bottle. Before you start packing, be sure to dump out the contents of whichever bag you choose. This will help ensure that those scissors don’t sneak their way into your bag and cause you problems going through security.

At the Ballgame. Before you go cheer on your favorite team it’s good to do a little research. Some stadiums like to punish the well-prepared by making bag-carriers go through a separate, and painfully slow, inspection line. If this is the case, it might be wise to forgo a bag altogether. However, if this isn’t the case, choose a handbag that’s small enough to fit under the seat but big enough to fit an unopened bottle of water (a great way to avoid paying those ridiculous stadium prices). Also, choose a fabric that can be easily cleaned when the guy sitting next to you spills his beer, because he will.

Front Row Center. You’ve got the tickets, now you just need the bag. If the concert is general admission, go with a wristlet. A handbag would just get in the way of the moshing and crowd surfing you’re sure to do. If you have seats however, don’t worry so much about size, just choose something fun and funky.

Out on the Town. If you’re headed out for a nice dinner (or if you’re a poor college student like myself and the nicest dinner you can afford is at Chipotle) try to scale down. There is no need to bring the oversized handbag you lug around all day. You won’t be needing to whip out a granola bar or the latest issue of Cosmo. Instead opt for something small and classic. A cute shoulder bag is a great option for a night out.

In the Mountains. If fresh air and scenic views are your thing, you’re going to need a good messenger bag or backpack. Packing for a day in the wilderness requires some preparation. You’re going to want a water bottle, snacks, sunscreen and a camera to capture the beauty of mother nature, just for for starters. A messenger bag is a great option because it’s large enough to hold everything you’ll need plus it will keep your hands free for that perfect walking stick you’re sure to find.

By the Sea. For fun in the sun, whether it be on the beach or by the pool, a tote is the best way to go. Choose one that is large enough to hold a beach towel and a change of clothes. Also keep in mind, the more pockets and dividers you have, the more places there are for sand to hide.

On the Road. Everyone loves a good road trip. Good friends, good music, and the open road - what more could you ask for? Before you embark on your next spontaneous adventure, be sure to grab your oversized handbag. Fill it with mix CDs, snacks and some emergency cash and you’re ready to roll.
