Hello hello! We’ve missed you in our Holiday festivities-filled time away. Now rested and cookie-filled, we’re back and rearing to go. Is there any way better to resume the fun than with an earthy, studded, cooler-than-cool dose of handbagness? I say not. Meet the lovely Ella Rose Stud Tote.
Have you tried the stud trend yet? No? Do I hear a touch of fear in your response? I understand and am here with my new firend Ella to ease that apprehension.
Before my own cross over to the stud side, my avoidance of the embelishment stemmed from its inherent corralation to goth and punk-rock looks — styles I admire on others, but for the most part am not cool enough to pull off myself.
I realized however that I can reap the benefits of studs’ coolness. The key is finding the right level of studiness (Yes, I made it up. Go with it.). Enter the Elle Rose Stud Tote. Items like this give you a great combo of earthy subtly and hard-edge rock n’ roll — and are thus easy peasy to pull off.
What else is great about the Ella? The marbled, slightly-crinkled exterior lends a vintage feel and the braided handle ups the uniqueness. Although my favorite decorative detail is the interior lining. Open this baby up to find purple and orange animal print. You weren’t expecting that, were you?
Let’s talk functionality. The Ella Rose Stud Tote‘s exterior is covered in handy zippered pockets, and the interior offers one zippered pocket and two open top pockets.
So what have we learned?

If you’re like me, you don’t carry a handbag, you carry a “mombag.” That’s right: everything you could possibly need for a day/overnight/week/whatever.
I’ve got all my makeup, multiple sunnies, deodorant, a camera, my planner, a book, gloves, pocket Constitution, staple nail polish, everything. It’s ridiculous. And I admit that I probably carry waaay too much stuff with me.
But it makes me feel secure. Let’s not judge.
Some bags are what I like to call “equipment enablers;” they allow those of us who need allll this stuff (“equipment”) to feel ready to function throughout the day. The Eden Stud Hobo is one such bag.
Currently battling my urge to shop for myself and compulsively contract a new everyday bag, I find I am drawn to the Eden by its evident functionality. Not only is it huge, it has a really wide, comfy strap, and there is a somewhat hidden small, zippered pocket along the top, next to the main opening.
You know, like a ninja pocket.
With thick leatherette covering the outside, and cool suede and stud detailing, this bag has form for days. The belt wrapped around one side of the strap is super hip in a oh-I-just-threw-this-on-there-kind of way. And the pewter/grey/silver palette? Fuhgettaboudit.

Quick week, everyone. At least, I felt like it was. Some interesting things to ponder:
mini moguls
. There are some people I can do without, but some just make me smile every time I see them. Especially when they’re so widdle, yet powerful! Really though, their utter lack of fear of dressing however they want is inspirational. And I don’t care if that sounds corny.
. Bloggers are movin’ on up. It’s all kind of hush-hush, but Vogue is rumored to be doing a feature (second story down) on some prominent fashion bloggers in an upcoming issue. Pretty cool to have Anna and the Voguettes embracing what some would consider the opponent to print mags.
. Thank goodness I bought those turquoise stilettos about two months ago. Turns out, turquoise is the color for 2010. I’m slightly surprised, but am completely okay with the assertion made by Pantone. Done correctly, turquoise is a fantastic pop of color, and I really am excited for the revival.
That’s all we’ve got, girls. Rule your weekends.

Meet Michelle, a style expert and editor of Cool Mama Style, a site dedicated to keeping budget-conscious mamas stylin’. With spot-on trend reports and savvy deal finds, Michelle and her lovely partner, Kristen, together aim to avenge momjeansitous. Not only do these ladies have keen fashion senses, but they relay their wisdom with an admirable quality of writing and manage to sprinkle in some hilarity. We got the chance to pick Michelle’s handbag-loving brain. Check out what we learned.
Q: Tell us a little about current handbag trends.
A: In one word, COLOR! We no longer have to live with just black and brown. Plum, Red, Yellow, Teal, and Orange are all fantastic colors for any time of the year. I have recently been carrying a purple hobo bag that I carry every day and its goes with anything I wear. It’s a special pop of color added to my outfit and I get a number of compliments on the color.
Q: What is your personal purse style?
A: As a mom, I need to have a fairly sizable bag to carry snacks and a million other little kid things that end up in my bag. That being said, any bag I choose has to have built in organization so that I can find my keys and my cell phone. I recently moved away from a bucket bag that I really loved, but often found myself frustrated that I could not find anything in the bag.
Q: What’s in your purse, always?
A: Aside from the normal wallet and checkbook, I always carry my camera with me in my bag because you just never know when you need to capture that special moment. I also have a number of different lip glosses, my blackberry and MINTS! Oh, and coupons for various stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, Ann Taylor, etc.
Q: What advice would you give someone struggling with which handbag to choose?
A: It’s really easy to get caught up into a color or a particular style from an appearance stand point, but you have to remember, that a handbag is supposed to be functional. If you are someone that commutes by train or light rail to work, you probably need a bag that offers a lot of storage for your water bottle, snacks, a book and maybe even a pair of shoes. I personally like a bag that offers the following elements to make my life a little easier; One, a built in clip for your keys. It can be irritating to search the bottom of your bag for 10 minutes when its 10 degrees outside and you need to get in your car or house. Two, I look for multiple built in pockets to store smaller items like my blackberry and lip gloss. Lastly, I find it useful when a bag has a few separating compartments to organize items you use frequently and items that you don’t.
Q: Tell us about your blog. What do you hope to accomplish with it?
A: CoolMamaStyle.com was developed out of our love for fashionable clothing and accessories. We hope to offer advice and tips to bring fashion back into the lives of many moms without spending a fortune. We have a reoccurring feature on our site, Binge or Bargain in which we featured an expensive “inspiration” piece for your closet and follow it up with a more affordable option. It’s been a great feature for many of our readers.
Q: Is there anything else you’re dying to share?
A: Being fashionable and developing your own style doesn’t have to be a chore, it should be fun! Don’t be afraid to try something new like buying a yellow handbag when you normally would choose black.

Grandfathers are so sweet. And if you’re in the market for gifts for your grandfather, I’m going to assume you agree with me. Is it necessary for me to scrunch my shoulders up and say, “Gwampaw” whenever I talk about sweet old men?

Everyone has a sports fanatic in their inner circle. My lovely BF happens to lean toward to the crazy side in this regard. He bans me from the living room while he watches his beloved college basketball because my insightful commentary on the players’ pants is “distracting.” He seems to have more sports-centric T-shirts and hoodies than there are days in a decade. And his favorite lullaby is the gentle hum of Sports Center.
Sound familiar?
If you know someone like this, dazzle them this Holiday season with a spot-on, sporty gift. Whether their addiction game of choice is golf, basketball, baseball, football or flying, these gifts are sure to score a home run.
