New Merch’ Monday: Rainbow Hemp Messenger

INTRODUCING…Our newest member…THE MESSENGER!

(Ahh yes…Take it all in…)

I love messenger bags! Ever since I was little, my shoulder was adorned with a messenger bag! I wasn’t a book bag, back-pack kind of girl…Oh no! I rocked the over-the-shoulder, so-your-books-and-folders spines-show-nicely, easy-to-find-everything, organized, pocket-filled messenger bag!

And I was cool!

Despite my young and odd need for organization, this messenger bag will add style and edge to your need for function!

Our Rainbow Hemp Messenger bag is vivacious and brings your RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) habit to the forefront. Going green is easy with this beauty! This handbag is made using 100% hemp and is accented with a colorful patchwork design across the front and the front flap is accentuated with playful fringe.

This messenger bag fits across your body which allows you to be hands free! There is one zippered pocket on the inside that helps you locate and store smaller items like keys and a cell phone. If you are anything like me, then pockets make all the difference!

This messenger handbag is practical and festive. If getting the job done, while looking stylish is your game then our Rainbow Hemp Messenger is a key component to your every day routine.

Ladies, this handbag is a true fashion staple that takes the definition of Going Green to a whole new level…

GO BRIGHT!

Go function!

GO GET ONE!

Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

Smart, Pretty and Awkward. Who doesn’t need daily tips on how to be smarter, prettier and less awkward? I know I do. Blogger Molly Ford provides tips here.

Jewelry. Jewelry was big (literally) at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival . Some good, and well…. some bad. See it all here.

Zooey Deschanel. I love her, I love her, I love her. Whether it’s her acting or her amazing vocals in indie band, She & Him, she can’t seem to do any wrong by me. Oh, and she is married to Ben Gibbard, the lead singer of Death Cab For Cutie. How adorable is that? But let me get down to my main point. There’s no denying how huge of a fashion icon she has become.

Photo: www.ew.com

This blog shows a lot of Zooey’s cute, vintage-y style and if you are looking to imitate or draw inspiration from her style, hair and make-up, this blog gives hints to getting her style and shows products she has been known to use. Is anyone else as inspired by Zooey as I am?

Sewing. I wish I could sew, because these bags blogger Shannon made for a trip to Minnesota are beyond all words, cute! Maybe I should get some of the fabric and sneak it into my grandmother’s room when she’s not looking. She’d know what to do.

Scooters. If you can’t have a puppy, get scooters. Simple enough.

Celeb Style: Lady Gaga Defaces and Inspires

If I were to have you pick which celebrity, either male or female, would possibly deface a 5,000 dollar Hermes handbag with permanent marker as an ode to their fans, who would you pick? Of course you would say Lady Gaga! Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan only deface their bodies.

Now, not that this is earth shattering, catastrophic news, it is still quite intriguing (which seems to, unintentionally be the goal of Lady Gaga…) Intriguing as it may be, it inspired me to look further into the realm of “Lady Gaga Pursedom.”

After grueling research, I must say that despite the graffiti, her defaced Hermes purse stood out the most. It is both elegant and modern, and not to mention cute! So cute in fact, that I am dying to show you our deal-breaker comparison! Say hello to the Broad Ripple Satchel!

This little gem comes in pewter, black, brown, navy blue and white. This satchel fits perfectly over your shoulder or in your hand. It also comes with a longer attachable strap.

The outside of the handbag is detailed with studded gold hardware and a zipper. This decoration adds sparkle and will keep this purse hot and modern for years to come.

This smaller satchel has a zippered closure on top with two zipper pulls which allows you to open and close your handbag from either direction. The inside lining includes two open pockets and one zippered pocket for easy storage.

Now I’m sorry to say that this purse isn’t as large as Lady Gaga’s and doesn’t leave tons of room for permanent marker graffiti… But I do believe the Broad Ripple Satchel will become a staple in your wardrobe, defaced or not.

The History of Handbags

We see them everywhere. Handbags. Ladies fill their closets with them. We have a different one for day and evening and change them to match our outfits. Men are also getting more accustomed to these and sporting murses. But did you ever stop to think about the history of handbags?

14th Century

Bags were mainly carried by men and were attached to girdles on their waists. These bags were often embroidered and used to show status.

16th Century

Handbags became more practical and more commonly used by men and women. Travelers would carry large cloth bags.

17th Century

Young women were taught embroidery as a skill to make them marriageable and because of that, handbags became adorned with beautiful stitching.

18th Century

Neo-classical clothing became popular. Wearing a purse would ruin the look of the clothing, so women wore smaller handbags and used them to complement their outfits. Women also had different bags for every occasion.

20th Century

This is when the term handbag was coined. It first referred to hand-held luggage bags carried mainly by men. Inspiration was drawn from this and bags were made for women that had fasteners, internal compartments and locks. (Yes, purses you could actually fit your life into! Because of course… that’s necessary.)

1920s

Fashion saw a revolution and bags no longer needed to match the outfit perfectly. There was much more of a variety in colors, designs and materials.

1940s

Handbags were being made with the war effort in mind. Metals and leathers were in short supply so manufacturers resorted to wood and plastics instead.

1950s

Many important designer houses were on the rise, including Chanel and Louis Vuitton, which are still huge today.

Today you can find a handbag in just about any style or design you want. They are made from many different materials, such as leather, space age synthetics and faux reptile skins. Designers are constantly coming out with new designs and handbag consumers are constantly consuming more. Handbags have come a long way since the 14th century and we definitely use them for both fashion and function. As we continue to evolve in the fashion realm, who knows what will happen for handbags next? What do you think?

Trend Tuesday: Citrus-Colored Handbags

Summer is the best time of the year, hands down, no questions asked. I’m always ready to throw on a sun dress and a pair of sunglasses and head out to soak up the sun. With summer comes tanned skin and what best to go along with your tan than those bright colors? Citrus colored handbags are in this summer and Handbag Heaven has plenty in stock to choose from. I prefer the Woven Canvas Tote. Of course, I also prefer anything big enough to cram half of my bedroom into it.

It’s an over the shoulder bag practical for all your summer needs. You can fit plenty in it: your sunglasses, a bathing suit and a couple books or magazines to read by the pool. This comes in four colors: the pictured orange, green, pink and brown. For the low price of $23.95, this bag is a must.

Looking for a smaller purse? Try the Vivian Flower Shoulder Bag or the Carrington Petal Frame Handbag. And don’t fret yet! We also have the best clutches for those summer night’s out. My favorite? The Caitlin Clutch.

So whatever size handbag you are looking for, we have the perfect one for you. They will be sure to be the perfect addition to any outfit. So don’t wait; get one now. Your summer wardrobe isn’t complete without one of these citrus colored handbags.

Weekly Blogosphere Roundup

Impossible Heels. When fashion functions as art first, it’s easy for the “beauty” to be lost on many people. But I think most can agree these shoes are pretty, well… pretty. Maybe not. At least, I think they are.

You’ve got something on your… I’m a firm believer that one’s hair should not draw attention to itself with anything other than its natural beauty. Unnatural coloring, sophomore-year-homecoming spiral curl tendrils, overly sensitive up-dos: all too much. Particularly when one’s purpose for wearing clothes to showcase them, distracting hairdos do just that: distract. Maybe I just don’t understand. But those tarantula-esque hair pieces aren’t doing it for me.

tiny girl...or huge bicycle?

Street Accessories. There’s something intriguing about a city packed with people unafraid to dress as they wish. Through my growing obsession with finding street-style blogs, I came across a new city of interest: Copenhagen. Enjoy.

Delightfully Tacky. As a soulless ginger myself, I have a natural attraction to others of my species. A blogger just brought to my attention may or may not be a natural redhead, but she pulls it off well for me to be semi-in-love. Plus, she was just named a “Blogger of the Moment” by ModCloth, so you know she’s cool.

Jellyfish. Sometimes, you see a piece of clothing that is different enough to stop you. Whether it’s the most ridiculous design you’ve ever seen, you can picture it becoming your favorite new piece, or it’s a unique enough to be a never-before-seen combination of the two, it’s a magical moment. The first dress here is inexplicably special to me.

Daily Affirmation. When it comes to pumping myself up, I have to admit my shortcomings. I’m just not very good at pulling myself out of a bad mood or getting excited for the start of a day, no matter the agenda. However, I may have found my new technique.

Go have a great day, girls.

New Merch’ Monday: April Studded Flap Clutch

Buy New Grey Studded Envelope Flap Clutch HandbagI know Miss T covered a studded clutch last week, but with a long list of graduations and weddings on the collective horizon, I just can’t keep this one from you.

Meet our April Studded Flap Clutch, a variation on a previous popular item (though the last one was sans studs and thus sans awesomeness). Thisenvelope style is the perfect size — somewhere between being able to fit a folder (too big) and a credit card (too small).

The grey,animal-friendly leatherette is the perfect match for any hued ensemble. The soft pleats at bottom up the dressy-factor, but avoid tuxedo territory because they are balanced by the flat, silver studs on the envelope’s flap closure. Inside you’ll find one zippered pocket and one cell phone-sized pocket. The top secures via a magnetic flap.

My favorite feature? The satiny polka dot lining in the bag’s interior. It’s all in the details, ladies.
