Weekly Blogosphere Round-Up

Busy week, girls. Lots of contest entries, and we’re loveloveloving it. Keep ‘em coming. Here are some cool things upon which our internets allowed us to stumble this week:

So Posh. I didn’t know this girl had any interest in bags aside from her umpteen Birkins, but apparently, Victoria Beckham is adding bags to her line. Should prove interesting.

Beautiful on the inside. Designer Marcel Wanders (what a great name!), known for his impressive mixing of aesthetics and eras, will soon launch his discount line through-where else?-Target. twofingerpokedanceofexcitement

Karl for Prez. Do want! It’d be like having a fashion Vladmir Putin on your desk every day. No more frumpy Fridays allowed, for fear the man himself actually is watching.

Stop. Okay, this is just disgusting. I can’t track down the name of the “designer” who decided thiswas a good idea, but that’s real meat, folks. Gag. Just stop.

Expensive Coloring Project. You can now add some flair to the iconic (Carrie Bradshaw, anyone?) Fendi Baguette with this DIY kit. Huh.

Have an awesome Halloween, errrbody. Hey, if you have any Halloween-themed bags, you should definitely post a picture to our facebook page. Doooo it.

Wednesday Q&A: Charissa Cowart

Meet Charissa Cowart, media personality and editor of the fabulous blog, Fashion Trend Spotting. Charissa has worked as on-air Internet/Tech reporter for local FOX News and is currently a Social Media Specialist at eBillme and on-air host at StartupsLIVE.tv. She has a passion for fashion and specializes in revealing the latest fashion trends from around the world. What’s a trendspotter, you ask? I know just who to ask…

Q: What is ‘fashion trendspotting’?

A: It’s basically what the title states – spotting trends in today’s fashion industry

Q: Tell us a little about current handbag trends.

A: Handbag trends right now are all about the two extremes! Go big or go tiny. What’s IN right now are oversized bags that make you look like you’re heading to NYC for a week, a small suitcase if you will. On the other hand, very small clutches are so hot right now! So choose your weapon… err I mean handbag wisely! Bigger than life bags mean you can fit it all in, but it might not be fun to carry.

Q: What is your personal purse style?

A: Well, I have three necessary qualities in a purse. Anything large enough to carry an extra pair of shoes - “just in case!” Anything PINK! And I must, must have a bag that helps me with my lack of organization. Do you have anything that falls in all three categories Handbag Heaven? J

Q: What’s in your purse, always?

A: I always have my Merle Norman pressed powder, e.l.f. lip gloss and hand lotion.

Q: What advice would you give someone struggling with which handbag to choose?

A: Buy them both! Seriously. If you are struggling between two bags, and both purses are on sale or in your price range - buy them both! One will certainly wear down and then you will have a second on hand to step in the lead role.

On the other hand, if you are looking at two bags of the same color, take a minute, close your eyes and think about that outfit you were already planning to carry it with first. And decide which purse would look best with it.

And if that doesn’t work… buy the least expensive one ;)

Q: Tell us about your blog. What do you hope to accomplish with it?

A: The goal of my blog, Fashion Trend Spotting, is to help teach my viewers how to spot trends, not necessarily on the runway or in top named magazines, but rather in everyday people. In the end, I want to help people see that anyone can be fashionable. Wear what highlights your characteristics, not what highlights the characteristics of other people.

I have a passion for fashion and networking with others on a level that allows me to get to know them and understand their passions. I want Fashion Trend Spotting to be the home for that.

Q: Is there anything else you’re dying to share?

A: Yes… Please - chat with me (aka follow me) on Twitter! @CharissaCowart

Bonus! The lovely Miss Cowart is hosting a fantasticly fun Handbag Heaven giveaway on her blog. Don’t miss it!

You Complete Me

Last night, I saw a woman walk out of Starbucks without her bag. I know. It was sitting on the ground next to her chair while she chatted with a friend cum real estate advisor (which is what I gather from bits of their conversation), and she just…left it there.

Don’t get me wrong; if my idea of a handbag was a pint-sized imitation Vera Bradley (not even the real abomination; a fake Vera Gag-me!), I’d probably leave it on the ground, too. I might even leave it on the cold cement of the drive-through, in the pouring rain, slightly to one side to make sure it and its contents get obliterated by the next beverage-bearing vehicle.

Because, really, who even cares, at that point?

For that woman, a handbag is just something she thinks she should carry, not a completing element of her outfit, her day, her personality. That woman and I—I would imagine—would not agree on much.

Going far beyond the basic functionality of allowing a girl to carry everything she needs for her WHOLE LIFE, handbags can, and should, make a statement. Statements needn’t always be loud; I’m not saying you need to carry a neon bag if you have an outgoing personality. Your bag should be a fabulous manifestation of exactly what makes you fabulous, not just something in which to throw your wallet and hide under your arm.

Be it a yellow hobo with a bling’d out peace sign on the front, a sleek, black tote for your laptop, or a muted grey hobo with tough hardware, a handbag is the most functional complement to its owner, a completion, if you will.

PS The woman made it halfway to her vehicle before realizing the treasure she left inside. But she’s lucky I didn’t dispose of it, for her own sake, before she returned. (verabradleeey…)

New Merch’ Monday: Serena City Satchel

Serena City Satchel

Serena City Satchel

Blame it on my long-held obsession with fashion or my preference for magazines over heavier literature (literally and figuratively), sometimes, I admit, I judge a book by it’s cover. Though according to my mom this is probably not so great in regard to the greater scheme of things, it’s very helpful when shopping! At a glance, I can tell what works, which brings me to this week’s new arrival…

One look at the Serena City Satchel and I was sold. The words that came to mind when I saw it: expensive and luxurious. Why, you ask? First, the color is stunning - purple is the hue of royalty, no? I know I want to be queen. Second, the exterior is butter-soft with the subtlest croc-embossment. I would be shocked - and impressed, might I add - if you didn’t mistake this for real leather. Third, this little lovely is brimming with details usually reserved for bags with tear-inducing pricetags.

The cinched exterior is not only beautiful, but functions to extend the bag’s size when loaded with your “necessities” - you know, those ten tubes of lipgloss, two water bottles and that umbrella. The braided handle is a fabulous touch, and long enough to fit snuggly over your shoulder. As a former NYC dweller, I feel this feature could be adventagous in the not-getting-pick-pocketed department. Yes, that is how my mind works.

Serena's Serena City Satchel

Serena's Serena City Satchel

And last, I can’t resist…any Gossip Girl fans out there? No? Well, just in case. I could totally see Serena toting the Serena around on a melodramic Upper East Side shopping trip with Blair!

Weekly Blogosphere Round-up

Yay Friday. Couple cool things this week, guys. First and foremost, let us all wish a heppey, heppey berthdey to our main man, Mr. Ralph Lauren.

As discount divas, we’re all about Target. Like…I can’t get enough of that store, I swear. Target makes me talk like a valley girl with its crazy-go-awesomeness, I don’t know what it is. I just like saying the name: “Target. Tarrrget. Target.” Or, as le French say: “Tar-jay.” Or something.

Anyway!

We’re honestly COUNTING DOWN the days until Rodarte releases its discount line at Target. We found out about this glorious collaboration from our girls at Seventeen a while back, but it’s getting closer to becoming a reality in November. And we. are. excited.

(Sidenote: Can I just say that I love Seventeen magazine? I feel like that mag has been in my life longer than most of my current friends. Just sayin’.)

Okay, to wrap it up, we’re breaking out a classic. You may have already seen this, but we’re just going to remind you of the, uh…the diversity that can be achieved through fashhhhion. This look is not one easily replicated, though, as it turns out, is not completely unexpected from a Lady such as herself: It’s not easy being green.

See you next week, girls.

PS If you haven’t entered our #inmyhandbag contest, you need to get on that. For real.

New Merch’ Monday: Rohm Zipper Hobo

With a name inspired not only by one if the most revered cities in the world, but also by the verb, the Rohm Zipper Hobo is quickly becoming a coveted item here at Handbag Heaven. Its medium size makes it great for all handbag lovers, and the supple material is to die for.

Rohmin' in Grey

Rohmin' in Grey

Writing this, I honestly could not stop squeezing the handle. I don’t know what it is; it just feels amazing. Don’t make me explain my love.

Except I’m totally going to.

There are a couple types of handles I can imagine on this bag, but the wrapped spun material is perfect. It really allows the zipper detailing to take center stage. The balance between the zipper edge and the fabulous flower into which it spins is perfection. That, combined with the gathered material on the sides, makes this bag something of a contradiction.

But a good one. A really good one.

I’ve decided the Rohm is understated major. Take it in. Understated. Major. Only the Rohm makes this make sense. Many of the bag’s elements are understated: the grey or deep purple goes with everything, the size is modest, and there is nothing really flashy about it.

"Rohmans" love purple.

"Rohmans" love purple.

But a true enthusiast will drool over the details: deeply ruched sides, thick, looped handle wrapped around itself, extra seaming across the front, along the zipper tail lines of the flower, substantial, knotted zipper pulls…Major.

The ability to make a statement with any outfit, without becoming tired, is a rare one, and The Rohm Zipper Hobo will undoubtedly be one of those bags you are SO GLAD you added to your collection, for years to come, wherever you may rohm. Er, roam.

Weekly Blogosphere Round-up

So how was your interweb week, friends? Mine was quite delightful, thanks! I found laughter, disappointment, mathematics and spiderboobs…what more could I ask for?

The Parent Trap, Lifesize and Mean Girls may secretly be three of my favorite films, but I still can’t deny that this is one of the most appropriate and hilariously true metaphors that I’ve heard yet. Lohan commenting on another item upon which she ‘”artistically advised”: “I call it Michelle Pfeifer in ‘Scarface.’” Hmm…

Say it ain’t so! How could you do this to me, Mr. Big?! And you met her at a bar? Wait, at YOUR bar? So you’re saying all I had to do was get hired as say, a hostess, and we would now be engaged to be married??

Ah oh well…I always liked Aiden best anyway. Moving on…

Geometry was always my strong point. Looks like the same was true for Victor & Rolf.

And to wrap it up, a little name game! What would you call this?

First, my turn. Cotton Candy at a Soccer Game. Now you.
