Backing Away From the Front Pack

frontpackOne of these things is not like the other…Normally I am all about individuality, however this is one instance where I draw the line. Wearing a backpack on the front appears to be a growing trend, especially among tourists. It’s a growing trend, that needs to be stopped.

Wearing your backpack on your front is basically the equivalent of stamping foreigner on your forehead. People hug their backpacks close to their chests when they feel uncomfortable in a situation. Sure massive crowds can be overwhelming and you may be worried about pickpocketing, but there are other ways to protect your belongings. More subtle ways that don’t involve looking like you’re a child pretending to be pregnant.

Choose a messenger bag or other handbag with a strap long enough to go across your body. These are the hardest to steal. You can even invest in a money belt, travel wallet or even a lock for your backpack.

Other people say they wear their backpack on their front, because it causes them back pain. I say carry less stuff! Yes, it’s great to be prepared, but do you really need an umbrella, poncho and raincoat? I think not.

Whatever the reason for wearing your backpack on your front, I can assure you there has to be an alternative solution, and I urge you to take it.

It’s called a backpack, not a frontpack. Let’s give the bag some respect people.
