Because right now a Costume Institute Gala best dressed list is as easy to find as a Facebook logo on the web, I’m going grant you my pessimistic literary stylings only.
Because this a blog about handbags, I’m only going to attack those attendees who didn’t bring a minion assistant with them to carry their cell phone.
Onward.
Vera Farminga in Sophie Theallet for Gap.
I’m not sure who Vera Farminga is, but I can safely assume she was a mermaid/milkmaid in another life. I can also safely assume that Sophie told Vera to exclude her name when questioned on the dress’s source. Vera forgot.
Padma Lakshmi in Roberto Cavalli.
Not only is Padma in Roberto Cavalli’s hands fashion-wise, but she’s literally in his hand. Get it? Because they’re holding hands. (Cue pity chuckle.) Unfortunately, she needs to let it go. Quickly, before another too-tight, undergarment-on-display, wrinkly-from-sitting bomb is dropped on us all.
Katie Couric in Carmen Marc Valvo.
Have you heard that saying that white clothing makes things look larger and black makes them look smaller? Yeah, I have too. Now someone tell Katie, please.
Tina Fey in Yves Saint Laurent.
You know, I don’t hate this. It’s just kind of a different choice for her. Her make-up is a little heavy handed, but I assume that was an attempt to sauce-up the could-be-casual jump suit.
3…2…1…And I’ve completely changed my mind, because if I look at anything long enough that I have a neutral feeling about I will inevitably like it. Eh, oh well.
Kristen Stewart in Chanel.
Is it just me or does Kristen aways sport a smug “I hate this kind of thing/get me out of here, Second Assistant/why is life so hard” look on her face? That’s so not a real smile. And the dress? It’s so so; I give it a shrug. I think she looks best in something with a very defined waist line and exposed leg, as she’s short. Can’t win ‘em all.

Totally right on Kristen Stewart. Read through the archives of Go Fug Yourself posts on her. The ones that allow comments are loaded with “If only she looked like she wants to be there” and “I wish she’d quit smirking.”
That’s so funny. Glad to hear I’m not alone! Those Fug Girls are hilarious.
