5 Fast Beauty & Fashion Emergency Remedies

Whether you’re at school, the office, or on a date, there’s nothing that can ruin your day faster than a fashion or beauty disaster! From a broken zipper to a food stain, there are some inconveniences that just can’t be avoided. We’ve all been there, but never fear — we’ve got some quick fixes that will take you from code red to smooth sailing in no time flat.

How to fix beauty and fashion disasters!

1. Attack of the Meal Stain

We’re all for trying new trends, but we don’t suggest wearing your meal. Unfortunately, messes happen — especially when you’re eating on the go — and a stain is left in its wake. We recommend carrying some kind of stain removal stick or wipes in your purse. Stains can happen anywhere, so why not be prepared?

2. Frizzy Hair

So you’re getting ready for the day, and your hair is beauty queen-approved. Fast-forward to arrival at your destination, and the heat and humidity have left you looking more like the Lion King. While we always suggest the proactive approach of using anti-humidity styling products, it’s always good to have backups in your handbag. Anti-humidity hairspray can help you tame the frizz and keep your tresses in place. In a pinch, rub a very small amount of hand lotion on your hands and lightly pat down the wild hairs.

3. Broken Pants Zipper

You’re sitting at your desk, only to discover than your pants zipper is broken, leaving you exposed to the world. Ugh, is it Friday yet?! No worries. This one’s easy! Knot a rubber band through the zipper, loop it around the button or clasp of your pants, and voila! That sneaky little thing isn’t going anywhere now!

4. Shiny Afternoon Face

Between moisturizers, primers, and cosmetics, it’s not uncommon to have an oil slick lurking on the surface of your face by the afternoon. We recommend carrying some oil blotting papers in your purse. These are very affordable and easy to find in any drugstore or cosmetics department.

5. Deodorant Residue

For those who forget to dress before putting on the smell-good stuff, or those who change their outfit at the last second before heading out the door, you may be left with the dreaded white stripes. While your first instinct may be to go for the toilet paper or paper towel, this could leave you with an even bigger mess. Use any item made of cloth (hint: a sock works great!) to rub off the residue.

There you have it! Quick fixes that will have you looking tip-top again in no time. Any cool fixes you know of that you want to share with us? Comment below!

6 Nail Polish Trends for Summer 2013

As the fashion and beauty nuts that we are, it’s not unlikely that you’ll find us with ah-mazing handbags and perfectly-manicured digits that match. This summer, we’re excited about some new nail polish trends and, of course, our new arrivals that match! Check out these haute pairs of lacquer and bags to find a style that will brighten your summer.

Tangerine Temptress

It’s summer, and we say it’s time to have fun with some colorful accessories! Brights are ideal for the sunny season, and there’s nothing sunnier than a bright orange! This Orly Mayhem Mentality polish is a perfect match for our Harper Messenger Bag, complete with a contrasting brown shoulder strap and bright aqua button. You could even go one step further and do one aqua accent nail!

Aqua Allure

Speaking of aqua…. The color of the beautiful ocean and the sprawling skies, there’s no better color for summer than aqua! Paired beautifully with neutrals, as well as other brights, this happy shade is a perfect match for accessories and nail color. We love Essie’s In the Cab-ana and its handbag counterpart, the Emily Messenger Satchel.

Beige Babe

This season, beige nail lacquer is splashing the fingers and toes of models and celebrities from coast to coast. Not a color typically associated with summer cosmetics, we think this color leaves the door open to add nail art, glittery top coats, or simply a chic manicure. Match this OPI Glints of Glinda with our Rebecca Doctor Satchel for a match made in Heaven!

Textured Mama

Have you tried this latest nail trend yet? Known as nail caviar, this polish includes a colored base coat and colorful caviar beads for a fun, textured manicure unlike any other! For a bag that matches, opt for faux animal skin bags like ostrich and alligator (never the real thing!). Our Isabella Sequin Clutch and Ciate’s Sugar Caviar Manicure in Tutti Frutti are like two peas in a pod!

Fierce Fuschia

Every girl has to have a flirty pink in her nail color arsenal. China Glaze’s You Drive Me Coconuts looks hot, hot, hot with our cute Edie Patent Barrel Satchel, wouldn’t you agree?

And who can forget the Pantone Color of the Year, Emerald? While it may seem like a cold weather shade, this color comes in a number of lighter tones that are ideal for summer. Essie’s Shake Your $$ Maker pairs perfectly with this Avery Winged Satchel. Aren’t you just green with envy?! We sure are!

12 Items to Always Keep in Your Purse

Not all bags are created equal. Some are small, some are large. However, we can all agree on one thing: The contents inside these bags are very, very important. What all does a girl need to carry?

Your bag can get loaded down with way too many things, so before you turn into Mary Poppins, we’ve put together a list of the 12 essentials. Read on to learn what the absolute musts are! (Psst: Going to a wedding? Then you’ll need to know this!)

12 Items to Always Keep in Your Purse

Learn more about these items here!

  1. Breath Mints. You know what it’s like: You’ve just had an amazing meal, but it was heavy — and we mean heavy — on the garlic. Take our advice and don’t get mistaken for a vampire hunter. Be sure to always have some mints to freshen your breath!
  2. Nail file. Nothing is quite as irritating as getting a chip in your nail and not being able to do a single thing about it. Carry a file with you so that you can repair nail nuisances stat.
  3. Compact. Don’t leave home without a mirror. Period. This cute one from Sephora comes in four different colors, plus it has two different mirrors — one regular, and one with magnification.
  4. Hand Sanitizer. It is a dirty world out there, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting clean hands before you eat. This Method one is a fantastic choice because it’s cruelty-free, which means no animal testing in sight. Plus, it comes in some pretty packaging.
  5. Bobby Pins. Ever tried to grow your bangs out? Ever been caught in a wind gust? We’ve all been there. We’ve all been miserable through it. Do yourself a favor and keep a few bobby pins in your bag to clip up those strays. Why not have some fun, too, while you’re at it, and get them in a bold pattern?
  6. Pen and Notebook. Essential. Sure, you have a smartphone, but you never know when you’re going to need an actual pen and pad of paper. This handmade set from Etsy? Adorable. Etsy is full of cute options like this one, and you can customize them just the way you like.
  7. Pain Medicine. Ohhh, the pain. Headache, backache, sore muscles, you name it. The pain may catch you off-guard, but you have a quick riposte!
  8. Snack. Stuck in traffic. At an event where the cheapest food item is $5.00 (and that’s just for the pretzel — not including the cheese cup). Meeting ran late and you have an appointment after work, and now there’s no way you can grab dinner. All of this is no problem since you have a (healthy!) snack in your purse to hold you over.
  9. Spot Remover. Tide To-Go Erasers = lifesavers! All you do is squeeze the edges and wipe. Hint: Buy the 4-pack, because it’s much cheaper than buying them individually.
  10. Lip Gloss. Even if you’re in a hurry, you should always make sure to toss on a bit of gloss as you’re running out the door. It glams up your look in just three seconds!
  11. Band-Aids. Yeouch! Those super-cute new flats you just bought and couldn’t wait to wear out and about? They’re giving your heels blisters — but never fear. You’ve got Band-Aids with you. A quick “Hang on a sec, girls,” and you’re bandaged up and ready to get walkin’ again in no time.
  12. Deodorant. Goes without sayin’. This awesome little stick is handmade and poured into a lip balm tube, so it can fit into the tiniest of purses.

Now you’re prepared and ready to hit the world without anything to stop you. What did you think of our list? Anything to add?

Summer White Out

It’s that time of year again! Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, wearing white is all the rage and this summer we’re more than ready to support the summer white out! From accessories to dresses, and pants to shorts, this is one trend that is not only classic but ideal for every style, personality, and body type. Aren’t sure about the best way to pull off this summer trend? No worries, girlfriend — we’ve got you covered!

white skinny jeans for summer

Whether you work in an office or simply have plans on a cool summer evening, white pants are still a viable option for the season. Opt for skinnies like this GBO Fashion blogger did, or try wide legged trouser pants, and pair with a basic top and accessories in neutral colors.

white summer dress

Blogger Nicholl Vincent looks fab in white on white. We love the idea of a white blouse, chiffon skirt, white necklace, and black accented accessories. Black and white is a timeless trend that never goes out of style.

white romper for summer

This look is nearly too cute for words! In contrast to Nicholl’s ensemble above, this Hello Fashion blogger adds fresh pops of color that are perfect for the season. Pair a peplum romper with colorful accessories like a floppy hat and bright strappy wedges.

white summer v-neck

There is just something sexy about an oversized white tee in the summer, and Ivory Lane’s Emily is proof! Throw on a v-neck t-shirt with colored skinnies, nude stilettos, a neon bag and some silver jewelry to achieve that “off duty supermodel” look!

white summer blazer

For those with a more classic style, a crisp white blazer paired with a printed blush-colored top, ankle denim and nude accessories is perfecto! P.S. Can we please focus on her amazing shoes?! All in all, another great look from Emily of Ivory Lane!

white pencil skirt

This look from Mix & Match Fashion is truly fancy-meets-fun. A white pencil skirt is a perfect canvas for mixing prints and colors. From her floral top to her striped shoes and bright bag, this lovely lady is one fashionista that knows how to wear white!

white blouse for summer

Check out this look by See Jane! For those working gals out there, these printed ankle pants and neon pumps are cute but classy with a loose, white button-up blouse. With an open neckline, why not throw in a fun necklace too?

So what are your white haute essentials this summer? On your next shopping trip, be on the lookout for a fedora, fun sandals, and cat eye sunnies. Statement bubble necklaces are a great addition to any summer look, while a versatile white tee and skater skirt are musts as well. Of course, the showstopper here is this Dakota Colorblock Bag — so cute! Finish the look with a white manicure and you’re good to go!

Prevent Summer’s Top 5 Beauty Blunders

Oh the joys of summer: bronze skin, sun-bleached hair, and perfectly manicured toes to fit into your cute little sandals. Unfortunately, our best beauty secrets can quickly turn into our worst beauty nightmares!

Take a look at these summer beauty missteps to find out how you can prevent them and maintain your status as a summer goddess:

Oh, Kim! Avoid Summer's Biggest Beauty Blunders

1. Awkward tan lines

So you found an adorable swimsuit with thick straps or cute little cutouts, and you’re super pumped to rock it at the pool. Unfortunately, you didn’t think about the tan lines it might leave behind afterwards — Eek! If you wear a lot of strapless or sleeveless tops, shop around for a bandeau bikini or strapless one piece. Nowadays, many swimsuits even come with removable straps for basking in the sun.

2. Sunglasses Sunburn

Oh, Kim … we’d say this is a pretty big beauty blunder! While we never recommend going into the sun without sunscreen, there is still a chance that you’ll get a sunburn. Be aware of how long you stay in the sun and be sure to reapply sunscreen every so often if you are exposed for very long. Also, be sure to remove your sunglasses in intervals to prevent the raccoon look so dashingly (not) worn by the middle Kardashian sister.

3. Damaged Hair

From spending time in the sun to overexposure to saltwater and chlorine, your hair can become über damaged in the summertime. If you are a blonde and plan to spend lots of time at the pool this summer, look for shampoo and conditioner that offers chlorine color protection. Regardless of your hair color, looking for products with SPF in them is also a necessity, and be sure to invest in a nice repairing mask to use once a week.

4. An Over-Tan

Whether you spend hours in the sun or go the sunless route, being too tan or overly streaky is never a good thing. Limit your time in the sun, and be sure to wear at least SPF 30. If you avoid the sun and layer on the self-bronzer, be sure to use an exfoliant and moisturizer to prevent your skin from turning 50 shades of orange!

5. Unsightly Feet

Want to avoid dry, calloused feet, but don’t have money to spend on a salon pedicure? Head to the drugstore and invest in a pumice stone and some foot cream to keep your heels and toes soft and pretty!

A day at the pool with the girls is the perfect way to work on your golden-bronze tan! Sport a classic white bikini and an embellished cover-up or sarong for a fun, pool-ready look. She might not be carrying one in this pic, but we would bet that this lovely lady (for Real Houswives fans — yep, that’s Gretchen!) has a beach bag like this Striped Canvas Traveler Tote somewhere nearby. Where else is she keeping her phone, towel, and sunscreen?!

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Late spring and early summer mark the beginning of wedding season. While we may not be the ones getting married, it’s always fun to get dolled up and watch loved ones say their vows! Once you send in your RSVP, the time comes to make a decision on what you will wear. Whether it’s a family affair or a throwback full of old high school and college acquaintances, you always want to look your best — and you can never go wrong with a dress! Here’s a roundup of great looks for [someone else’s] big day!

Stripes and Maxis

striped maxi dress for a weddingsummer wedding maxi dress

Maxis are ideal for weddings because they are comfy, cute, and provide extra coverage for those who aren’t interested in showing leg. Black and white stripes are big this season, as well as the hi-lo dress.

Feminine Nudes

nude color dress for summerfeminine nude tone dress

We never recommend wearing white or ivory to a wedding (that’s reserved for the bride only!), but nude isn’t entirely off the table! If you are looking for more feminine touches, we suggest nude or blush tones. Avoid loud colors and patterns at weddings to ensure that the the bride is the leading lady.

Sparkles

sparkly dress to wear to a weddingsparkly nude dress

Add some pizazz to your wedding guest attire with a sparkly number. When choosing a dress, be sure to consider the venue for the wedding. Is it indoor, outdoor, both? This should determine whether to go casual or fancy-fancy. Sparkles can play up (or play down) a look, as evidenced above!

Classy

Classy Black Dresscoral dress to wear to a wedding

If you identify yourself with a more classic style personality, fitted dresses, cap sleeves, pencil skirts, and peplum styles are the way to go. Think “little black dress” on this one, which can be dressed up or dressed down. Simplistic dresses with fine jewelry and gorgeous heels are a must for summer wedding season!

Skirts

skirt to wear to a weddingfloral skirt wedding attire

Skirts are wedding-appropriate, too! Be sure not to go too short, but just long enough to show that you’re a lady. Mix and match prints, pair with flowing blouses, and accessorize with belts and heels or embellished flats for a look that is both romantic and fun!

Don’t forget to pack up a cute little clutch- and make sure you don’t forget anything important. Aren’t sure what to fit into such a small space? We’ve got it covered with this post on nuptial essentials!
