Spring Trend Preview: Celebrity Looks For Less

Spring is coming, and we’re slowly starting to see celebrities switch over from darker winter garb to lighter spring attire. With our eye on some of our favorite A-listers, we’ve pulled together a few looks for less for your Spring 2013 wardrobe. Time to start taking notes and plan a shopping trip!

Jennifer Lawrence look for less

Snag her style here!

It’s not always about the article itself, but more about a print, pattern, or color. In this case, the emerald green of Jennifer’s lovely dress is taking center stage. As the 2013 Color of the Year, emerald can be worn in a variety of shades (depending on your preferences or skin tone), ranging from dark to light. We just love this pleated beauty, which the Hunger Games star pairs with a pair of black strappy heels. Have a special occasion coming up? Opt for a green, jewel-toned frock like Jennifer’s!

Shay Mitchell look for less

Get the look here!

Brights are always a breath of fresh air when the spring season rolls around. Besties Vanessa Hudgens and Shay Mitchell each opted for a perfect mix of black and brights. Shay chose bright yellow skinnies and a neutral top, while Vanessa paired neutral bottoms with a bright top and an edgy leather jacket. Why not mix it up for the best of both worlds? Pair bright yellow skinny jeans with a sheer black top, much like the Pretty Little Liars star, and add a fun leather jacket to take the look to the next level!

Kendall Jenner style

Copy her look here!

The Kardashian’s younger sisters are all grown up — and their style is fabulous! All legs and long hair, Kendall Jenner looked young and fresh in a leather mini and studded black booties. As the leather trend transitions from winter to spring, the peek-a-boo trend emerges. We just love Kendall’s simple gray top with cut-out shoulders, baring a little bit of skin in a classy way. Our version looks much the same, with a much smaller price tag!

Seasonal Transition Piece: The Cropped Sweater

Summer 2012 saw the re-emergence of the crop top, and early 2013 trends are following suit with the cropped sweater. While tunics and long, oversized sweaters have been the go-to style for the past few years, we think the cropped version is a much-needed refresher. Are you tempted to begin styling this “it” sweater into your seasonal garb?

Here are a few tips for pulling off the look the right way, along with notable fashionistas wearing the look for inspiration!

Go Casual

Cropped sweaters come in all shapes and sizes, from fitted to oversized — and even in cardigan form. We love the idea of pairing one with comfy jeans and a fun undershirt in bright colors, prints, or patterns for a casual look, much like See Jane‘s look above. Or, mix and match prints with a gingham button down and striped sweater for a winter-to-spring look. Of course, you should be mindful of your pairings; a loose top is a good match for fitted bottoms, and a fitted top is best for loose bottoms. After all, a fitted top doesn’t exactly create a modest look when paired with skin-tight leggings — eek!

Go Bright

How boho-chic is this look from The Day Book, featuring a long maxi shirt with a basic tee and belted, cropped cardigan. Love! This look adds a fashion-forward spin to the everyday look of a casual sweater. A cropped sweater also presents the perfect opportunity for throwing on some colorful skinnies or a bright cami for a playful touch. Don’t forget to add standout spring accessories like a bubble necklace, jeweled collar, or sweet scarf.

Go Bold

While a bare midriff is hardly appropriate for chilly winter-to-spring weather, we’re all about breaking the rules — sometimes. We recommend this look for a dressier setting, such as a party or night out. If you’re opting for a cropped sweater without an undershirt, consider pairing it with high-waisted bottoms or a skirt, like Diane Kruger’s fab look above. Talk about hitting two trendy birds with one stone: a cropped sweater and black-and-white color combination! And we can’t get over her perfect handbag pairing (we have a look-alike here). Hot, hot, hot!

Tell us, do you dare wear the cropped sweater?

Francophile Fever!

Do you dream of the Eiffel Tower? Is Amélie your favorite movie? Are wine and cheese your favorite indulgences? You may be a Francophile. I know I am! France is a beautiful country, full of beautiful people, and beautiful things — including fashion. French fashion has a soft, sweet feel that is extra feminine, and let’s face it, I am just a sucker for pretty, girly things! Here are a few of my favorite things…oui, oui!

paris

First of all, who wouldn’t fall in love with a landscape like this? Fashion inspiration is already forming in my brain as I gaze at the La Grande Roue and majestic Eiffel Tower…

french fashion

french fashion

L: Oh là là! This lovely lady is wearing what I envision as the epitome of French fashion. A perfectly tailored, A-line dress (a shape made known as the “most wanted silhouette in Paris” by designer Christian Dior in the 1950s), classic heels, and fancy structured handbag are a classic, ladylike look. Steal the look with this structured ladylike satchel!

R: This look combines a tailored blazer, high-waisted skirt, and neck-tied blouse — with stripes, of course! French fashion staples, stripes, and neck-adorning blouses are a go-to look for those interested in channeling their inner Francophile!

L: French ladies are known for layering in an effortlessly chic way. Channel this posh Parisian look with a knitted beret, scarf, blazer, shift dress, layered necklaces, tights, booties, and a foldover bag.

R: True Parisian elegance! Complete with the Eiffel Tower in the background, this frilly, pink beauty has a modern European style that I absolutely adore! When choosing formal wear with a French twist, remember that it’s all in the details! Look for lace, corset tops, ruffles, feathers, and hints of sparkle.

laduree macarons

Is there anything prettier than a macaron? Available in a rainbow of beautiful colors and delicious flavors, these sweet treats are readily available at specialty bakeries near you. Treat yourself to a few of these colorful cookies along with café au lait to feel the essence of a true French lifestyle!

Do you fancy France as much as we do?

How to Get a Perfect Top Knot

A few weeks ago, Molly and I attended a fashion event that focused on all the must-try trends for winter. Before sitting down for a fashion show, a hair stylist showed us how to achieve a perfect top knot! Turns out, the secret ingredient is lots of teasing! Perfectly teased and tousled hair will create a knot that’s just the right amount of messy.

Molly played model while I snapped photos of the stylist giving her a top knot. Check out how it’s done:

how to do a top knot

  1. Put your hair in a high ponytail. The stylist recommended using your fingers as a brush for a slightly undone look.
  2. Using a fine tooth comb, tease your ponytail!
  3. Form a bun by coiling your hair around the base of the ponytail. Secure with a rubber hair tie.
  4. Pin the knot in place with bobby pins.
  5. Voila! Top knots are the perfect ‘do for taking your look from daytime chic to nighttime glam.

“The Bachelorette” Bracket Challenge

Check out our updated Bachelorette Bracket below, and see if you can predict which guys Desiree will pick and which ones will get the boot!

Print >

It’s okay to admit it. You spent your Monday night huddled around the TV with your girlfriends, gossiping about the latest group of bachelors. Don’t worry, we did too.

No matter who you watched it with, we think it’s safe to say The Bachelorette Season 9 premiere did not disappoint. And now that the first batch of roses has been (unconventionally) handed out, it’s time to put your reality TV relationship instincts to the test. This season, the Handbag Heaven ladies have stirred up a little friendly competition, and we’d like you to join — that is, if you’re up to the challenge.

Who do you think will win Desiree’s heart and who will get the boot? Simply separate the crazies from the keepers and fill out our week-by-week bracket below before the next Monday’s episode. Then be sure to chat with us on Facebook and Twitter each Tuesday, as we discuss each moment of delectable drama. And if you’re feeling ultra-competitive — round up your girls and create a Bachelorette pool of your own!

Will the men turn on one another? Will there be guy tears, fist fights, hot tubs, and the most dramatic rose ceremony ever? Will Des find true love? While we’re pretty certain we can already answer these questions, we can’t wait to tune in and find out!

Scoring

Decide among your friends how you’d like to keep score or follow along with the system we’re using at Handbag Heaven!

We’ve decided to assign a point value for each week. Multiply that point value by the number of guys you’ve correctly guessed, and you’ve got your score for the round. The one with the most points at the finale wins. :) Based on our point values, a perfect bracket would result in a score of 474. Good luck!

Top 16 - 3 points

Top 13 - 5 points

Top 11 - 7 points

Top 9 - 9 points

Top 6 - 11 points

Final Four - 13 points

Final Three - 15 points

Finale - 20 points

The One - 30 points
