Fall 2012 Tailgate Fashion

college fashion, interviews, gossip, and campus living

college fashion trends, lifestyle, gossipLet’s face it, runway fashion is super chic but not so realistic. Many of us question whether or not we would dare to wear runway fashion in real life, but it can be done. The most effective way to pull these looks off? Zone in on the trends rather than the ensembles by making the fabrics, colors, and patterns from popular shows your own!

Three prominent trends dominated the fall 2012 runway — The Great Outdoors, Classic Lady, and Modern Military. These campus gals received an A+ from Handbag Heaven U for incorporating runway trends into tailgate attire while staying true to their personal style:

Fall Fashion Trends 2012

If you love tweeds, knits, and plaids, The Great Outdoors is the preppy trend for you. This wilderness-inspired style is the epitome of classic fall with earthy tones and bold patterns.

Trisha Marshall is an easygoing senior at Ball State University (BSU) majoring in nursing. She sticks to a neutral color palette and wears statement jewelry to add excitement to her preppy look. Trisha tends to purchase solid pieces to build a long lasting wardrobe. “My all-time favorite look is a neutral cashmere sweater,” she says. “Cotton is a cost effective substitute because it’s easier to handle when I’m away at school.”

Her favorite Handbag Heaven style is the Lola City Handbag. “It is so sleek and functional. I have seen a lot of my favorite celebrities carrying glossy totes this season.”

Refined styles based on the mid-20th century housewife ruled the runways this fall. If you love luxurious fabrics and soft pastels, than the Classic Lady trend is for you!

Kelsey Seger is a fun-loving junior at BSU majoring in hospitality management. This lovely lady is drawn to pale pastels, lace, and cotton fabrics. She favors v-necks and stripes for casual wear, but spices up her evening look with hints of animal print and glam earrings. “First impressions are extremely important,” she says. “It’s always good to look and feel your best when meeting someone for the first time in college.”

Kelsey’s favorite Handbag Heaven style is the Delia Quilted Bow Bag. “I adore the black ribbon weaved throughout the gold chain with a bow on top!”

The Modern Military trend is edgy with dark colors and eye-catching embellishments. Try this trend if you love studs, leather, structure, and soft masculinity!

Monique Knaggs is a creative sophomore at BSU, majoring in art. The young artist often wears leather and incorporates deeper shades into her wardrobe by adding them to her hair. “My personal style is a combination of girly grunge with a hint of hipster,” she says. “I try to do my own thing and not conform to the ordinary college girl look.”

Monique’s favorite Handbag Heaven style is the Emerson Backpack Satchel. “I really don’t like carrying a purse because they aren’t always convenient. I can carry everything I need in a cute backpack that doesn’t get in the way.”

Well, there you have it HHU gals! Walk off of the runway and into the stands with your best fashion foot forward. ;)
