While the nation is focused on the upcoming presidential election, we’ve been thinking a lot about the style of a First Lady. The Handbag Heaven gals were lucky enough to attend a talk about the impact of Jackie Kennedy Onassis on both the political AND the fashion worlds. Her youth, beauty, and style definitely set the bar high for future First Lady fashion. Her look became iconic, and was copied by women everywhere both then and now. Her skirted suits, pillbox hats (did you know she hated hats?), white gloves, and signature oversized sunglasses are unmistakably “Jackie.”

Jackie never forgot the details. It’s easy to be focused on finding the perfect dress, but she was photographed in all types of places, and her outwear was always stylish and never an afterthought. This ladylike coat cinches at the waist and the open collar shows off the bateau neckline of the little black dress. Pearls are, obviously, a must when pulling together the Jackie look, as are pink lips (her signature), kitten heels, fur-trimmed gloves, and a satchel.
